Check your scorecards
  • The home team has the responsibility for entering the scorecards for both innings. So there shouldn't be any unsure in the home team batsmen or their bowlers and fielders.
  • There could be some unsure in the away team batters, bowlers and fielders. To get the stats correct and make the cards complete, we suggest that the away team has a look at the scorecard and corrects errors.
  • There is nothing to stop the away team actually entering the scorecards before the home team does - that's fine.
  • We hope all of you will go back to all the scorecards of games you were playing in, home and away, and correct any errors and gaps you see. You won't be able to change the result itself, but you can always change the scorecard details.
  • You have to be signed in to your club's play-cricket web site with admin rights to enter and change scorecard details.

The £35 charge for tea

We've had facilities reports back saying that the tea wasn't worth £35. That's not the point. We set a fixed fee so over home and away the costs even out. We are not saying a club must spend £35 on the away team's tea, and I doubt any team ever does. Please assess the tea quality in your report against what you expect, what you are used to for a cricket tea, not against an arbitrary and nominal £35 cost.

Club "key colour"

On a couple of the on-line forms (away team facility report and disciplinary report) we use the name of a colour as an authenticator for each club. The colours are the same as last year. If you don't know, or have forgotten, your club's key colour, get one of your officials to e-mail me and I will let you know what your colour is. This just a simple scheme to deter fraudulent reports.

I have collected together quite a few notes, copies of documents distributed in the last few seasons, etc, and you can see these or download them from the "forms and help" page linked on the left.

Quirks of the 'play-cricket' system

A quirk that was frequently spotted on 'play-cricket' last season was that on the day of a game the game apparently disappears for a few hours around the due start time. It isn't found among "fixtures" - which lists upcoming games, and it isn't found among "results" - which lists past games. Normally this is no problem. By late afternoon you do see it in "results" so you can enter the result. The quirk is annoying when you call a game off but have to wait until late afternoon before being able to record the cancellation.

Another quirk is that 'play-cricket' sometimes acts differently depending on which browser you use. If you are not using IE (Internet Explorer) and you encounter something unexpected, just try with IE and that might clear up the problem.
