Summary of the EGM and SGM
Extraordinary General Meeting 8 April 2008
The proposition that two clubs would be promoted from Division 6 to Division 5 was passed. Since we are still allowing District League winners in at Division 5, the consequence of promoting two is that more clubs will be relegated from Divisions 5 downwards.
Spring General Meeting 8 April 2008
Points from the various presentations:
- We are still short of 2 Divisional reps on the committee (Divs 3 and 4). Volunteers please!
- As noted (e.g. in previous newsletters) there is no consistent message from bodies above us about requiring Clubmark accreditation, so there is no timetable for mandating it. But clubs are encouraged to consider acquiring it anyway.
- We are monitoring start and finish times this season. The away team puts the times in its facilities report. A persistent theme at AGMs and other meetings is about games finishing late, hence calls for 40 overs or earlier starts. There is another solution up to you - speed up the over rate and reduce the tea interval. If there really is a problem with slow play we could next season introduce penalty points as other leagues do.
- WEPL clubs using their 1st team players in their 3rd or lower XI's: sometimes very appropriate, e.g. players returning from injury. What we do not wish to see is this used as a tactic deliberately to ensure a win in the County League games. It is against the spirit and disciplinary measures could be invoked.
- Divisional meetings in September have been very useful and we will hold them again this year. We will ask clubs to be more consistent in voting on proposals at Divisional meetings when they are then taken at the AGM.
- Remember the away team tea cost is fixed for all at £35. The away team is asked to rate the tea in its facilities report.
- The accounts for 2007 have cleared audit and are available to view (behind the password given in the handbooks) from the Committee pages on this web site.
- Results and league tables will only be available on the web from the league's play-cricket web site, no longer from this web site.
- That means that bonus points, entered manually by the home team when putting in the summary result, can (and often do) contain errors, making the league table wrong sometimes. We will be correcting those errors centrally as soon as possible after each weekend. But be aware! The play-cricket site will state the date up to which the errors have been corrected.
- The County League has paid play-cricket the £25 it costs to get the full statistics package on its play-cricket web site. Since scorecards are being entered for every game, this means anyone can see in lots of detail all the stats for individual batsmen, bowlers and fielders, by division, in county league games. You can compare yourself with all the other players. We will be using these stats for the individual performance winners. We hope this will interest lots of your players. If your club wants stats for all its games (not just county league) and your players only, you also need to pay play-cricket £25 for your own stats package.
